Chelsea are close to completing the deal for Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana, but coach Thomas Tuchel has asked his club not to stop there.
The Blues have been already busy this year, signing the likes of Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella, among others, who are already the biggest summer spenders of any team in Europe.
New owner Todd Boyle showed his intent on his first summer transfer window, spending a lot on defensive signings, with Fofana set to be one of the most expensive defenders ever.
Now, though, Tuchel wants Chelsea to invest elsewhere, and Bohle may have to spend more to get his squad ready for the rest of the season and keep the manager happy.
Business may not be transferred to Chelsea
Chelsea have been targeting players such as Everton’s Anthony Gordon and Barcelona’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Tuchel said he needed new signings before the transfer deadline.
“At the moment I think we may need more players in some positions,” Tuchel said as he prepared for the trip to Southampton on Tuesday.
He continued, “It is very close to the end of the transfer window and when the first of September comes I will be a happy coach no matter what happens.”
Despite this, Tuchel said he will find ways to work with his team no matter what he has: “I will try to find solutions and not think about what might or might happen.”
🚨 Anthony Gordon’s move to Chelsea now appears unlikely due to the huge gap between the two clubs’ evaluation of the player.
Also, Chelsea have reservations about signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang due to the financial matters involved.

Chelsea are working on a deal for Aubameyang, and are close to an agreement with Barcelona, with Tuchel keen to reunite with the striker after working with him at Borussia Dortmund.
With Gordon, there were significant fees, but Chelsea were reluctant to meet Everton’s valuation of the player, which was set at around £60m.
If the Blues do end up securing players, in addition to signing Fofana, it would be the largest amount spent by a single team in a single transfer window, overtaking Real Madrid’s record set in 2019.
