Ten Hag says the number 7 will stay, rules out more signatures

Erik ten Hag insists that Cristiano Ronaldo will remain a Manchester United player after the transfer deadline, while also suggesting that club spending will come to an end after the deals for Anthony and Martin Dubravka are completed.

United finish the moves for Ajax winger Anthony and Newcastle goalkeeper Dubravka before the window closes on Thursday.

Asked if he would be the last newcomer of the summer, Ten Hag answered “I think so” before adding that it was “obvious” that Ronaldo will stay at Old Trafford until at least January.

“I suspect [there won’t be any more signings]Tin Hag said at a news conference on Wednesday.

“That will be the end of this window, but when there is a great opportunity we have to always be vigilant at this big club.”

United have been linked with a move for Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest but Ten Hag has played down reports that right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka could leave before the deadline despite interest from Crystal Palace and West Ham.

“Of course, Aaron will stay inside,” said Ten Hag. “So this team, we’re going from September to January at least and we’re going to play with that team this season.”

Ten Hag will move his team to Leicester City on Thursday and United are looking for their third win in a row for the first time since April 2021.

Leicester are last in the standings after taking just one point from their first four matches, but United have not won at King Power in any of their last three visits.

“I watched two matches and also knew from last season how good they are, and you can see in the matches they have played so far,” said Ten Hag.

“It’s really good to see the ID card, so we have to be really good.

“Victor Lindelof is training with the team but only one session and he’s been out for three weeks. Anthony Martial is not there.”
