Revealed: Why Manchester United did not sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

Sergei Milinkovic-Savic plays for Lazio

Manchester United have been in the market for a new midfielder, but it seems unlikely that they will get a new player before the transfer deadline on Thursday night.

The Red Devils targeted a handful of midfielders over the summer and even spent 17 weeks working on a deal with Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.

They agreed on De Jong’s wages, but no move was made and there were problems over the player’s deferred wages that Barcelona owed.

Sergei Milinkovic-Savic was another target of the club, and Manchester United have reportedly held talks with their representatives, but no move has materialised.

Lazio demand big pay for Milinkovic-Savic

Lazio was demanding a large fee for the player, something Manchester United were not willing to pay, and this move, too, never happened as interest from the English club cooled.

Milinkovic-Savic’s agent, Matja Kezman, has spoken about the Serbian star’s future, revealing why Manchester United have not made a move for the player.

He was asked why the clubs did not make any move for his client, because others such as Juventus were also interested in him, and explained that Lazio was demanding a lot of money.

“We’ve talked about it a lot in the past, but now the Milinkovic-Savic project is too expensive for them (Juventus),” Kezman said about the midfielder’s future.

It was believed that 100 million euros was the fee transferred by Lazio president Claudio Lotito, which led to the postponement of many clubs across Europe.

Milinkovic-Savic will be happy to stay in Lazio after spending many successful years there – over time, he has become one of the best players in the league.

He has been linked with Manchester United several times in the past – dating back to the time when Jose Mourinho was at Old Trafford – but no concrete move has been made for the player.
