Alexander Isak’s big-money move from Real Sociedad to Newcastle is the latest noteworthy move in the Premier League, with the division breaking its own record for the most money spent in one transfer window.
England’s top tier has already smashed its previous record of transfer spending for a single transfer window. Close to £1.7bn has been spent this summer and by the time the transfer deadline has passed on 1 September, that is likely to have topped £2bn, making it the most spectacular period in history for big deals.
Indeed, fans are still waiting for some significant movement. Liverpool are poised to chase a midfielder, Man Utd could spend over £80m to land Antony, Arsenal have said they will consider doing business and Chelsea’s squad remains incomplete.

What deals have happened in the Premier League?
Reigning champions Manchester City activated Erling Haaland’s release clause at Borussia Dortmund and bought Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United, while Stefan Ortega arrived on a free transfer. Sergio Gomez joined from Anderlecht in the middle of August, while Pep Guardiola also welcomed Julian Alvarez into his squad following his January transfer from River Plate. Gomez and Haaland were both boyhood Man City supporters, which has pleased the current fanbase.
But, despite their eye-catching additions, they have lost several key stars. They’ve sold Raheem Sterling to Chelsea and both Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal. They have also lost veteran Fernandinho on a free transfer back to Brazil, while Pedro Porro has joined Sporting CP permanently.
Last year’s runners-up Liverpool have also spent big, beating off numerous rivals to land Benfica revelation Darwin Nunez for a club-record fee of £86 million (€100m), including add-ons. They’ve also signed youngsters Fabio Carvalho from Fulham and Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen. But, Jurgen Klopp’s side have sold a host of players, including club legend Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich, Takumi Minamino to Monaco and Neco Williams to Nottingham Forest.
Further investment may yet be necessary at Anfield after a spate of injuries contributed to a poor start to the season for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has splashed the cash as they try and catch up with City and Liverpool. The Blues lost both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christiansen to free transfers, while Timo Werner has re-joined RB Leipzig but they have signed the aforementioned Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, as well as Marc Cucurella from Brighton.
More big names will follow if Thomas Tuchel is to have his way, with Aston Villa’s Carney Chukwuemeka, Chicago Fire’s Gabriel Slonina and Inter’s Cesare Casadei showing their desire to future-proof the squad.
FOOTBALLTRANSFERS’ MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS IN THE WORLD
Manchester United are fully aware they need a transfer revolution if they are to restore their former glories and in Erik ten Hag and they have targeted the Dutch market. Ten Hag has signed Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez and Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia, while Christian Eriksen has arrived on a Bosman after his short-term Brentford contract expired. Casemiro has also been added after Man Utd lost their opening two Premier League fixtures of the season. The Brazilian was unveiled ahead of their victory over Liverpool.
However, the Red Devils have lost Paul Pogba (to Juventus), Nemanja Matic (to Roma), Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard (to Nottingham Forest) on free transfers after their contracts expired while Dean Henderson and Eric Bailly have joined Forest and Marseille respectively on loan.

Paul Pogba left Man Utd on a Bosman for Juventus
There has been a huge amount of spending in the capital, with Arsenal investing heavily in the transfer market once again. Zinchenko is the most recent big name to arrive, joining Jesus, Fabio Vieira, Marquinhos and Matt Turner to sign for the club this summer. The Gunners have sold the likes of Bernd Leno, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi, though, while record signing Nicolas Pepe has joined Nice on loan.
Across North London, Antonio Conte demanded that Spurs owner Daniel Levy gave him a huge transfer war-chest and that wish has been granted. Ivan Perisic joined from Inter on a free transfer, while Fraser Forster also arrived for nothing from Southampton. Yves Bissouma was picked up from Brighton, while Djed Spence was signed from Middlesbrough. They also captured Richarlison for a club-record €70m.
Everton responded to selling Richarlison by making their first signing of the summer in Burnley defender James Tarkowski. He has been joined at Goodison Park by Dwight McNeil and Lille star Amadou Onana. The Merseyside outfit also loaned out Dele Alli to Besiktas.
Newcastle were expected to be one of Europe’s biggest spenders this year following their takeover and they beat AC Milan to highly-rated Lille centre-back Sven Botman, while also bringing in Matt Targett and Nick Pope. The Magpies have also swooped for Alexander Isak, who has arrived from Real Sociedad.
Aston Villa are another club who were busy early in the transfer market, spending £27.9m on Sevilla’s Diego Carlos, £18m on the permanent deal for Philippe Coutinho and the impressive free transfer signing of Marseille youngster Boubacar Kamara. A move for Watford’s Ismaila Sarr fell through.
Leeds have opened up their chequebook, spending almost £100m on a raft of players to make up for the exits of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha. Marc Roca, Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra are among the new arrivals.

Leeds sold Kalvin Phillips to Man City
West Ham have also spent well, beating Paris Saint-Germain to Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo for £32.4m on top of their other business, which includes the addition of Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd, PSG’s Thilo Kehrer and Burnley star Maxwel Cornet. They have also added Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri to their squad for a fee of £13m.
Wolves made Hwang Hee-Chan’s loan deal permanent from RB Leipzig and have added defender Nathan Collins from relegated Burnley as well as Goncalo Guedes from Valencia. Bruno Lage’s side also snatched Matheus Nunes from Sporting, despite interest from the likes of Man City and Chelsea.
However, they haven’t replaced Fabio Silva, who has joined Anderlecht on loan.
Newly promoted Nottingham Forest have been one of the sensations of the summer transfer window, and have now signed 17 new players.
They are the second biggest spenders in Europe, bringing in the likes of Lingard, Taiwo Awoniyi and Remo Freuler. Forest pushed up their spending further with the arrival of Morgan Gibbs-White from Wolves, who will cost the Premier League new boys a cool £42.5m if add-ons are met.
Fellow new-boys Bournemouth’s biggest signing is Marcos Senesi from Feyenoord.
This page will be updated regularly to detail every Premier League transfer by every club between now and the end of the summer transfer window, both ins and out.
