Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and his wife were threatened Monday morning during an armed robbery at their home in the Catalan capital.
Camp Nou confirmed it the athlete that at least four masked men broke into Aubameyang’s home in the suburb of Castelldefels, armed with rifles and iron bars, and forced the couple to open a safe from which the jewels were taken.
Reports in Spain say Aubameyang was beaten with a rod, but Barcelona sources say the 33-year-old was unharmed.
The incident occurred at 1am CET, just hours after Aubameyang was an unused substitute at the Camp Nou during Barcelona’s 4-0 La Liga win over Real Valladolid.
The former Arsenal player’s future remains uncertain, with Barcelona opening up offers to sell him to help fund the arrival of other players ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.
