Erik 10 Hag has defended Bruno Fernandes right after criticism of his angle during Sunday’s 7- reduction at Liverpool, describing him as an “inspiration to the team”.

The United captain was visibly discouraged and appeared to thrust the referee’s assistant in the 81st moment.

There have been phone calls for the Portuguese to reduce the armband, but 10 Hag explained he will lead the side yet again.

“I assume he is participating in a good season,” Ten Hag said.

“He has performed a significant role in us getting where we are. He is an inspiration to the team all people would make faults and we understand. I have to learn and he will as nicely,” he added.

Pundits ended up swift to criticise Fernandes, previous United defender Gary Neville claimed Fernandes’ conduct was “uncomfortable” and Chris Sutton stated on Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night time Club that United experienced “individuals considerably far better certified to be captain” than Fernandes.
