How did Man United fail to kidnap Isaac?

Alexander Isaacs, Newcastle, 2022/23

Manchester United have reportedly tried to hijack Alexander Isaacs’ late move to Newcastle, but the player turned down his offer.

The striker joined Magpies recently for a club record fee of €75m including add-ons after he turned down an offer from United to move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have never made an official offer to Real Sociedad, but have contacted Isaacs’ representatives to appreciate his interest in the move.

However, the 22-year-old is believed to have turned down the proposal on the recommendation of his agents and opted to complete his move to Newcastle where he is said to have tripled his wages.

Isak is hoping to make his new team debut in their upcoming match against Liverpool, having missed the draw against Wolverhampton due to a delay in his work permit.

Will Man United sign a striker?

United are preparing to end the busy transfer window after confirming the signing of winger Anthony from Ajax for 100 million euros.

The Brazilian Martin Dubravka is set to follow, as it was agreed to sign the Newcastle goalkeeper on loan to provide competition with David de Gea.

Eric ten Hag is still hoping to sign another striker, as speculation continues over the future of last season’s top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo still hopes to leave United for the Champions League, but the 37-year-old has struggled to secure offers and could remain at the club, with transfers to Napoli and Sporting so far failed.

If Ronaldo fails to secure a move away, it could reduce United’s prospects of signing a striker, as the club have already spent more than £200m this summer.

Ten Hag’s was already believed to be running on limited money after spending around £70m on Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez earlier in the summer.

However, the club opted to cash in after their dismal start to the season which saw them lose their first two Premier League games.

Casemiro joined from Real Madrid for £70m and Anthony’s big cash acquisition means any move for the striker appears unlikely unless Ronaldo ends up leaving before the deadline.
