Dubravka, Flickin and goalkeepers target Man United

Martin Dubravka, Newcastle, 2021/22

Manchester United have been linked with a host of goalkeepers over the past few weeks as they hope to present a competitive second option to challenge David de Gea this season.

They have targeted goalkeepers from different leagues, and have already seen the interest of Jan Sommer of Borussia Moenchengladbach and Kevin Trapp of Eintracht Frankfurt turn down.

Despite this, there are still so many options for Eric Ten Hag to explore before deadline day, so what options can he go for before the window closes on Thursday?

Martin Dubravka

This appears to be the best option as Martin Dubravka is open to joining Manchester United, and Newcastle are also said to be eyeing the best deal to make it happen.

Dubravka has plenty of experience in the Premier League, and with his club signing Nick Pope from Burnley earlier in the transfer window, he will have fewer first-team chances.

There is doubt about whether he can really challenge De Gea and push him to become even better, which is concerning, but it looks like a deal will be done soon regardless.

Mark let it be

The Independent reports that Manchester United are interested in a deal for Freiburg goalkeeper Mark Fliken and believe the deal is feasible.

The Dutchman has admired the club in the Bundesliga and has the desired qualities that Ten Hag loves: passing, leading the penalty area, and staying off his streak.

This could also represent a better deal than Dubravka’s, and at 29 he certainly has more time to compete at Manchester United.

Alex McCarthy

Another Premier League goalkeeper, Alex McCarthy, of Southampton, would be open to a move with Gavin Pazono favourite.

The 32-year-old has a wealth of experience in English football and was number one at Southampton for several years until this campaign.

With his role at Southampton now reduced, he will come at a cheap price and the deal should come in handy if Manchester United want him.

Odysseas Vlachodimos

Manchester United were linked with Benfica goalkeeper Odyssias Flashodemos earlier this month, but this is arguably the toughest deal of the group.

Flashodemos is still number one in the Portuguese squad and wouldn’t want to let him go on the cheap, especially so late in the transfer window.

United could also face competition from other clubs – namely, Leicester City, who are looking for someone to take over from departing Kasper Schmeichel.
