Manchester United are close to completing a deal for Ajax winger Anthony, leaving PSV Eindhoven striker Cody Jako’s future up in the air in the closing days of the transfer window.
The Red Devils coach, Erik Ten Hag, is known to admire Jakbo’s talents, having seen how good he could be when he was in the Eredivisie and was named Dutch Footballer of the Year last season.
However, he preferred signing Anthony over Gacpo, having previously worked with the Brazilian and oversaw the move from South America to Europe.
United are set to finalize a €100m transfer deal for Anthony before the transfer window ends, but the interest from the Premier League in Jakpo is far from over.
Interest is still high in Gakpo
The Dutchman was a target of several Premier League clubs earlier, such as Arsenal and Newcastle United, but no move was made as he was focused on the Champions League campaign for PSV Eindhoven.
Now that PSV Eindhoven are out of the Champions League and will play in the Europa League, there could be a focus on a move again, with some clubs in the lower half of the Premier League considering the move.
According to The Athletic, Southampton are one of the clubs interested in a move to Gakpo, while Everton are also considering a deal.
Some reports in the Netherlands also suggest that Manchester United are not completely against the idea either, but they are waiting a little longer while PSV want an explanation of what’s going on with the situation.

PSV Eindhoven recently agreed a deal to sign Anwar El Ghazi from Aston Villa for €2.5m in what many believe is a suitable replacement for Gakpo should he leave at the end of the transfer window.
Gakpo has been talking about his future and talking about the interest in him from Manchester United, as well as whether Anthony’s move to Old Trafford has any impact on his future.
“Manchester United is one of the interested clubs, but there are other options. United is a serious option. I can hear everything. I’m trying to get rid of him, but it’s difficult,” said Jacpo.
He later added regarding reports of Anthony’s transfer to Tin Hag: “Anthony for Manchester United? Beautiful for him, but for me and my future, I think it has no effect.”
Gakpo continued: “It’s like a puzzle, so in the coming days I’ll see which puzzle suits me best – for me, it certainly wouldn’t be a bad idea to stay in Eindhoven. We’ll see.”
Gakpo is one of the Eredivisie’s most exciting players and it will be interesting to see what happens in the final days of the transfer window in terms of his future.
