Wesley Fofana’s move from Leicester to Chelsea is something Barcelona are desperate to achieve before the transfer deadline as it could be a catalyst for them to make significant transfer gains.
Fofana is expected to complete his move to Stamford Bridge in a deal that will be one of the biggest deals ever made for a central defender.
But the detrimental effect is that Leicester will need to spend in order to secure an alternative. Here comes the role of Barcelona indirectly.
One of the players most associated with moving to King Power once Fofana moved to Chelsea is beautiful defender Jean-Clair Todibo.
Todibo joined Nice in January 2020, initially on loan, after becoming frustrated with his lack of first-team opportunities at Barcelona. The deal was sealed the following summer for a deal worth €8.5 million, while FootballTransfers estimates that at the time it was more than €11 million. Barcelona were clever enough, though, to put a clause in the deal that would offset 20% of any future transfer fees.
How much can Barcelona earn?

Todibo is now worth around €19.5 million, according to FootballTransfers’ estimate, but his price tag will undoubtedly be inflated by the late nature of any Leicester bid.
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old, who is under contract until 2026, is indispensable to Nice and appears unlikely to leave under the circumstances.
“It was clear from the start, everyone knew I wanted to stay,” Ness told Matin of his transfer links to Naples and Seville earlier this summer.
All this means that Leicester will have a hard time forcing any deal over the next 48 hours, depriving Barcelona of an immediate cash injection – the kind they crave due to their financial woes.
On the positive side for the Catalans, Todibo is well on his way to becoming the next William Saliba or Fofana, so a move of €30m or more in the future is entirely possible.
